Turkish filmmaker Atil Inaki’s A Step into Darkness will be the inaugural film at the 14th IFFK. The eight-day film festival will showcase 164 films in 11 categories.
There will be 14 films in the competition section. Other sections are African Contemporary Cinema, Cuban Cinema in Focus, 50 years of French New Wave, First Time Directors, Indian Cinema now, Malayalam Cinema Today, World Cinema Section, Retrospective, Contemporary Master in Focus and Homages. In the retrospective section is to be screened the films of Mrinal Sen, Arturo Ripstein, Mikio Naruse, Jacques Tati and Lohithadas. Films of Raoul Peck and Penek Ratnaruang will screen in the Contemporary Master in Focus section.
The Suvarna Chakoram for the best film will carry a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. The best director, best debutant director and the audience choice film will receive Rajatha Chakoram and Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.
The best Malayalam film will receive the FIPRESCI and NETPAC award.
The delegate cell of the 14th IFFK was opened at the Kalabhavan Theatre here on Thursday. The last date for registration is December 5.
